While some with seminary degrees still seek pastoral-type positions, many seminary graduates are seeking jobs in various fields. As their job search begins, seminarians may find that diverse companies and organizations are seeking applicants with theological or spiritual backgrounds. Note that these alternative career paths may require ordainment, additional degrees and/or work experiences; however, they could provide the seminary graduate a place to start.

Consider the Publishing World

Many denomination-specific publishing companies are looking for seminary-educated employees. This includes, but is not limited to religious book, magazine, or newsprint publishing. The writing, editing, fact-checking, and research skills to be gained in seminary can often successfully transfer into this environment. Employers may find a seminarian’s ability to reflect, analyze, and glean insight from religious texts to be extremely beneficial.
